Snooker time

Graeme Dott and wifeWell, this post can only be in english, after all snooker is so british. Yesterday the 2005/2006 snooker season was over with a surprising new champion, the scotsman Graeme Dott. He is not one of my preferred players, neither is the british semifinalist Peter Ebdon, it was a bit of a surprise to see those two in the final of the World Snooker Championship. I think they play quite flat and with a lot of potting errors, of course Ebdon won the 2002 World Championship, and he sure was a nice player but it’s been a long time since he lost his brilliant game. Even with that kind of players the final was a fine entertainment because they were at the same level, Dott led the way all the time and he was 7 frames away by the 27th frame, then Ebdon woke up from his slumber and won 6 frames in a row and he was only 2 frames behind Dott, but of course it was too late, Dott only needed 2 frames to win and he got them after a 14 hours match. They also got the record of the longest frame in this season with 1 hour and 14 minutes, it really was one of those frames.

I expected more from Ronnie O’Sullivan, one of my favorites, but he is so irregular, he can just win 10 frames with an outstanding play and then ruin everything playing like ass. He is first in the official rank and he wins a lot of things but it depends so much on his mood at the time of the game. He got to the semifinals but he was just wiped out by Graeme Dott, quite a shock.

I was also a little amazed by the prizes of the World Championship, the winner got £200,000 and the 2nd £100,000. Wow! That is money indeed. The statistics tell that Ronnie O’Sullivan won this past season £380,250. Perhaps it’s not too late to start playing snooker! The 2006/2007 season starts in August, let’s get to it!

It sure was more enjoyable because of the two eurosport presenters, they are the kind I like, they talk very few, only to tell significant things and they speak in a crystal clear english. One of them has this nice accent, when he says “the british player” it just sounds like “the bRRRitish player”, I like that!

See you in August boys!
